Coffee? Never needed it when I was younger. My energy came from sheer will and the thrill of last-minute deadlines. But as time passed and those reserves ran dry, I discovered just how quickly youthful bravado gives way to the desperate search for something—anything—that could keep me awake. That’s when I finally surrendered to the world of coffee, waving the white flag with a shaky, sleep-deprived hand.
Coffee can be a hit or a miss, and for me… it was definitely a miss. The effects on my body were just not worth the few hours of harnessed, crazed energy.
Don’t get me wrong, coffee is a wonderful thing for many people around the world, but unfortunately, not for everyone.
With all that in mind, let’s explore some reasons you might look beyond coffee for your energy needs.

Some Call it Jitters, Others Call it a Feeling of Impending Doom
That jolt of energy can result in:
- Anxious feelings
- Restlessness
- Racing Heart
- Panic Attack
- Poor Sleep
Your GI Tract is Not Built Ford Tough
- Acid Reflux leading to the sensation of heartburn
- Bloating
- Nausea
- Stomach pain/cramps
- Diarrhea
When Preference Turns Your Coffee into the Sugar Factory
Coffee connoisseurs, please look away, but the amount of flavored creamers and sugar I needed in my coffee to suit my taste was diabolical. I could hear my pancreas cry out for mercy. Sugary coffee drinkers can experience…
- Increased daily sugar consumption
- Sugar Crash
- Increased risk of poor dental health
